The Best on the Gulf Coast is Getting Better

WEIGHMASTER 101

Being the weighmaster at a big game sportfishing tournament takes more than simply being able to read the scales--just ask Paul Pristas, the ECBC Weighmaster.

Before weigh-ins even begin Paul must check and set up the equipment--scales are calibrated, certified and tested and the condition of the jib, tail ropes and pulley system confirmed.

Once weigh-ins begin the weighmaster is responsible for first inspecting the fish to be sure it qualifies to be weighed--he must verify the fish as one of the tournament's eligible species, be sure the fish is fresh and hasn't been mutilated and that it meets both federal and tournament minimum requirements… Full Story

CLASSIC MAINTAINS CONSERVATION ETHIC

The Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic still boats the highest minimum length for blue marlin in the Gulf Coast tournament circuit, 103 inches--four inches over the Federal minimum length.

In addition the Classic continues to encourage the release of billfish by including a cash release division verified by video recording and a perpetual trophy, donated by Galati Yacht Sales and Viking Yachts, for the Top Overall Release Team.

Marine biologists are on-hand during the tournament to collect biological data and all weighed fish are collected, refrigerated, processed and donated to food banks.
