FISHIN' CHIX "FISHING RODEO" SERIES AT SANDESTIN
September 12, 2008

Fishin' Chix Pink rubber boots and sequined tank tops aren't exactly what you would expect to see at a typical fishing tournament, but there isn't much about the Fishin' Chix that's typical. The Pensacola-based women's fishing group will cast its rods September 18-20 for the annual Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeo-Destin; the docks at Baytowne Marina might never be the same.

The Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeo Series, sponsored by the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation, consists of three Fishin' Chix tournaments along the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast. The fishing festivities begin with the Captain's Meeting on Thursday along with a special fishing seminar presented by pros from the Chevy Florida Fishing Report, group activities from fashion shows to beauty seminars on Friday and the fishing tournament on Saturday. No experience, no problem—the tournament attracts women at all skill levels, ages four to seventy-two.

Claudia Espenscheid, chief executive officer and founder of the Fishin' Chix, considers Sandestin a natural choice for the Destin tournament. "Sandestin has been my favorite place to visit for 20 years," said Espenscheid, "but I alwaysFishin' Chix think of the Gulf. There are so many amazing things on the Bay with the Marina and the Village. It's just the perfect venue for the tournament."

According to Espenscheid, at least half of the women in the tournament have never fished. "Everything is about fun," she said. "This is a high-end, turnkey adventure."

So what about those pink rubber boots? Espenscheid said it's part of the fun of the Fishin' Chix experience. "Our motto is to inspire and fashionably attire adventuresome women," she shared. "The tournament is a weekend of fun, camaraderie, sisterhood and enjoying the outdoors."

From its Pensacola roots, Fishin' Chix has become a national phenomenon with more than 800 members throughout 16 states. The organization's Pink Rubber Boots Ladies Fishing Rodeos are not only a great way for women to come together on and off the water, but also to help support Covenant Hospice's children's programs and Guy Harvey's Ocean Foundation.
