Sponsor Spotlight: Mojo Sportswear

May 4, 2011 | Sam White | Combining the tradition of function with a unique sense of style that's both classy and cutting edge, Mojo Sportswear is set to burst onto the tournament sportfishing scene as the Presenting Sponsor of this year's Mojo WiremanEmerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin.

Started by Tim Mossberg and Rodger Bagwell, the company was founded on the premise of bringing fresh new ideas to the offshore sportswear marketplace—gear that performs at the highest levels and yet has an instantly recognizable style that's unlike anything else out there. From long- and short-sleeve fishing shirts and shorts to caps, visors and ladies apparel, Mojo has much to offer both the serious offshore aficionado and the casual spectator. There's even a line of "Mojo After Dark" that takes the fishing angle even farther off the docks and into the cool summer evenings.

Leadership of any company begins at the top—both Mossberg and Bagwell are avid offshore anglers. In fact, both have participated in the Emerald Coast Classic for the past several years aboard Bagwell's Mojo, the boat name that started it all.

After more than 20 years in the apparel industry, Mossberg decided to create the Mojo brand in 2009, combining his experience in the industry with his vision to create an edgier line that was both stylish and functional. Bagwell brought his 30 years of business experience to the table as well as Mojo Gearhis passion for big-game fishing, and together the pair have steadily succeeded in what has become a very competitive marketplace.

But there's also been adversity along the way as well. Mojo was set to make a big splash during the 2010 Emerald Coast Classic before disaster struck. The Deepwater Horizon rig exploded and sank in the Gulf of Mexico, and the resulting oil spill closed much of the Gulf to sportfishing, forcing the cancellation of the tournament and delaying the Mojo kickoff for a full year.

For this year's event, Mojo will be bringing in their signature custom 40-foot recreational vehicle that's fully wrapped with graphics, as well as the Mojo Girls. The company has also planned to sponsor an entertainment night during the tournament as well. "This year, we're bringing a new sense of excitement and an energy level to the tournament that should be a lot of fun for everyone, whether you're a participating angler or a spectator on the docks during the weigh-in," Mossberg reported. "We're looking forward to a high level of involvement with this year's event."

When asked about their reasons for participating as a sponsor of the Emerald Coast Classic at Sandestin, Mossberg was unflinching in his response: "It's one of the top tournaments in the country, especially in terms of the exposure you receive; the staff does an outstanding job of hosting the event, from the registration to the awards presentation, everything is first class all the way." Mojo plans to use the Classic as the launching pad for their new designs as wMojo RVell. "The retailers usually will have the new gear by the first of the year, but the fishing season here in the Gulf really doesn't start until the tournaments in the summer," Mossberg said. "This event is a great way for us to showcase what's new for the season to the tournament anglers."
