Awards are based on Level 1 entry fees: 80% of the tournament entry fee goes to tournament awards; 20% is applied to tournament expenses. Of the 80% allocated to tournament awards, 60% goes to the Blue Marlin Division and 40% goes to the Gamefish Division (split evenly between the three gamefish species).
The amount allocated to tournament awards is split 50/30/20 between the three heaviest fish in each species category. If only two qualifying fish are caught in a category, the split is 60/40 and if only one qualifying fish is caught, the winner takes all. If there are no winners in an entire species category, the cash allocated for that species rolls evenly into the remaining species categories. All monies allocated for tournament awards are disbursed.
Awards are based on Level 2 entry fees: 85% of the release entry fee goes to release awards; 15% is applied to tournament expenses. The amount allocated to release awards is split 50/30/20 between the three teams accumulating the most release points. If only two teams qualify in this division, the split is 60/40 and if only one team qualifies, the winner takes all. If there are no qualifying teams in the Release Division, the release entry fee less fifteen percent (15%) is refunded.
Awards are based on Top Crew entry fees: 100% of the crew entry fee goes to crew awards. The amount allocated to crew awards is split 50/30/20 between the top three crews accumulating the most total weight and release points. If only two crews qualify in this division, the split is 60/40 and if only one crew qualifies, the winner takes all. If there are no qualifying crews in the Crew Division, the crew entry fee is refunded.
Awards are based on Jackpot entry fees: 90% of the jackpot entry fee goes to jackpot awards; 10% is applied to tournament expenses. The 90% allocated to jackpot awards is split 60/25/15 between the three heaviest fish, or three teams with the most release points, in that jackpot category. If there are only two qualifying winners the split is 65/35 and if there is only one qualifying winner, the winner takes all. If there are no winners in a particular jackpot category, the jackpot entry fee less ten percent (10%) is refunded.
Cash awards are paid by check and mailed within two weeks following the event. If you won a cash award you must check in with tournament officials at the Awards Brunch to provide payee name, address and SSN/EIN. You may have more than one payee. The award amount will be announced at the Awards Brunch. A 1099-MISC is issued for all prize money to the person or company to whom the check is made payable.
