Production Boat Gets a Custom Design

Since 1972, Bluewater Yacht Sales has been a name that represents first-class service along with some of the finest brands in the marine industry, including Bertram, Jupiter, Regulator, Pursuit, Pioneer and Bull’s Bay, from the Florida Panhandle to the Texas border. This year, they join the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at the Sandestin® Golf and Beach Resort as a sponsor, and the timing couldn’t be better.

“We’re really looking forward to this year’s tournament,” says Bluewater’s Forrest Long. “We’ll be fishing on the Rebel, a brand new Bertram 64 that’s one of the first ‘new Bertrams’ off the line. We’ve also got a new location that’s opening in August at North Light Marina—we look forward to bringing great boats and first class service to the Destin market.”

The Rebel was designed by her owner specifically for fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and was extensively customized for the task at hand. She features a cockpit that’s laid out perfectly for sport fishing along with an interior that was created to comfortably accommodate the crew on overnight trips. A resin-infused manufacturing process makes the Rebel not only fast but nimble while increased fuel capacity gives her the long legs needed to fish hard over multiple days. And all the work was done in-house at Bertram under the watchful eyes of chief designer and naval architect Robert Ullberg.

Bertram has really transitioned to building more of a custom boat,” Long reports. “Now the buyer has the option of going to a production boatbuilder—in Bertram’s case one of the most recognizable boat brands in the world—and designing a boat to fit their specs with the quality assurance and service network that Bertram brings to the table.”

Long anticipates that the Rebel will arrive at Baytowne Marina on Tuesday afternoon prior to the start of the ECBC and will be on display Wednesday and Thursday. “Stop by and see what Bertram has to offer,” he says. For more information, visit
